There is little priority on recycling and waste pickers are the among the lowest class of people and often abused. Due to many factors, less than half the 3000 tons a day is picked up by the city leaving half to liter the city on streets, filling rivers, illegally burned or dumped. Much of this is filtered by Waste Pickers in Bangladesh and sold to recyclers for a fraction of its true worth.
